Scrapbook embellishing doesn’t have to be complicated! In today’s scrapbook layout process video, I’m sharing how I used the Stampin’ Up!® Mix & Match section to make embellishing quick, easy, and cohesive — without needing to create every little detail from scratch. We’ll take a look through the Mix & Match section of the catalog, talk about how those pieces can work together, and use featured catalog artwork as inspiration. Rather than copying the artwork exactly, I’ll show you how I take an idea I love and modify it to fit my own photos, story, and scrapbook style. And that checkered background? It may LOOK like I cut and inked 98 individual squares — but I definitely did not! I’ll show you a much easier way to create the same patchwork/checkered effect. I used mine for these fun farm photos, but this background could easily take you through all kinds of fall memory keeping: • Farm or ranch photos • Pumpkin patch or fall festival • Sunflower fields • Harvest memories • Pumpkin spice outings with girlfriends • Everyday autumn photos The real focus of this layout is making your supplies work harder: use ready-made embellishments, borrow inspiration from artwork you already love, and find easier ways to create backgrounds that look like they took much longer than they actually did. Back to School Scrapbook Layout | Creative Ideas Using What You Have! Today we’re creating a two-page Back to School scrapbook layout with a little twist! Instead of starting with a traditional school-themed paper collection, I’m using fall patterned papers in small doses and combining them with cardstock, stamps, dies, punches and pieces from my stash to create a completely custom school layout. One of my favorite parts of this scrapbook layout is the handmade backpack embellishment. There wasn’t a backpack die involved! I challenged myself to look at the shapes and supplies I already had differently and build my own backpack using unrelated dies and punched pieces. It’s such a fun reminder that our crafting supplies can do so much more than what they were originally designed to do. We’ll also play with several distressing techniques to add texture, dimension and definition to the layout and help all of those individual pieces come together. Do you ever look at a scrapbook collection and wonder how you’re possibly going to stretch it into all the pages you need? Get scrapbook layouts ideas on how to stretch your scrapbook supplies. In this video, I’m sharing exactly how I stretched limited supplies to create more scrapbook pages without making every layout look the same. The Heirloom Boutique collection gave me a bit of a challenge—there were very few large elements, no titles on the sticker sheet, and not a lot of obvious extras to work with. So instead of adding more products, I started looking at what I already had in a completely different way. I’ll show you how I used negative sticker pieces that would normally be thrown away, created my own titles and journaling elements, backed stickers with cardstock, let my photos become the hero, and found simple ways to make a small collection go much farther. These ideas aren’t just for this collection. You can use them anytime you’re trying to stretch your scrapbook supplies, work from your stash, or get more pages from what you already own. In today’s Christmas scrapbook layout process video, I’m taking one scrapbook sketch and giving it a festive Christmas twist! This layout is part of our monthly YouTube Scrapbook Sketch Hop, where nine creative scrapbookers each create their own interpretation of the same sketch. This month, Katy Taylor from Scrappin’ Katy selected our sketch and gave each of us a different challenge or technique. My assignment was Christmas Twist, so I pulled out the beautiful Timeless Christmas Suite Collection along with several coordinating sneak peek products and created a playful Christmas layout from start to finish. Along the way, I’m sharing ideas for: • Turning a scrapbook sketch into a layout that fits your own photos and style • Working with longer, narrower and nontraditional photo sizes • Layering patterned paper, cardstock and die-cut elements • Adding texture with a 3D embossing folder • Stamping and die cutting to create embellishment clusters • Using small houses and accents to reinforce the theme without overwhelming the photos • Taking the basic bones of a sketch and making it completely your own For this layout I’m using the Timeless Christmas Suite Collection along with the Welcome Noel stamps and dies, Playful Patterns Stamp Set, Softly Woven 3D Embossing Folder, Adhesive-Backed Christmas Berries and other coordinating Christmas products. I love how this layout turned out—the traditional reds, greens and warm neutrals feel Christmasy, but the little houses, layered frames and playful details keep it fun. Scrapbooking Ideas for Busy Pattered Paper. In today’s scrapbook process video, I’m creating a scrapbook layout from beginning to end using the bright and colorful Splash of Sparkles Specialty Designer Series Paper from Stampin’ Up! Incorporating ideas for busy patterns into your scrapbooking isn't always easy. Busy patterned paper can be beautiful — but it can also be intimidating! In this video, I’m sharing some of the ways I keep bold patterns and bright colors from overwhelming a scrapbook layout. We’ll talk about how to: • Ground bright and busy patterned paper with deeper coordinating colors • Work with photos that contain colors you might not normally choose for a scrapbook layout • Pull grounding colors from the photo and repeat them throughout the page so everything feels intentional • Mix several bright patterns without letting them compete with your photos • Use small areas of cardstock to give your eye a place to rest • Look at your dies as basic shapes and find completely new ways to use them One of my favorite little details on this layout is the nail polish bottle. I created it using Christmas ornament dies — a skinny ornament became the top of the bottle and a rounded ornament became the bottom. It’s a fun reminder that our dies don’t always have to be used for the purpose printed on the package! If bright patterned paper has ever made you wonder, “What in the world am I supposed to do with THAT?” I hope this process gives you some ideas for making those bold papers easier to use while still letting them be the star.
